Repair of scratches and impact marks on a rotor shaft

Back to overview

Recently, MarineShaft completed an in-situ micro welding repair job on a rotor shaft.
The electric motor for a thruster sustained damage on the rotor shaft during the removal of the coupling hub.

The damage amounted to scratches and impact marks on the coupling end of the rotor shaft with depths ranging betwqeen 2-5 mm.
MarineShaft was contacted to provide an urgent in-situ repair solution.

Two service technicians traveled from Denmark to Taiwan,
where the offshore installation vessel was located.

Based on the material specifications, we had prepared and shipped our micro welding equipment on-site.

Before micro welding, we ground and polished the damaged area to ensure a clean surface. We always perform a NDA inspection before and after micro welding to confirm a successful welding.

After the micro welding process, the repaired areas were hand-polished, and finally, an independent third-party conducted a NDA inspection in accordance with class rules.

The repair was completed within 8 working days.
